Senior Software Engineer - Java/C++

About the role

A recruiter is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and develop high-performance backend services for a distributed platform. The work is hands-on development using Java and C++, including performance optimization, debugging, code reviews and collaboration with architects to deliver scalable and reliable solutions. The position is listed as a contract, hybrid role based in Colombo.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services for a distributed platform
• Develop software using C++ and Java
• Collaborate with the product architect on architectural decisions
• Conduct code reviews
• Follow agile practices and take responsibility for delivery quality and timelines

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
• 3+ years of solid experience in software design and development using Java
• Experience in unit testing, performance profiling and debugging (execution and memory)
• Experience with cloud technologies, build systems and CI/CD; coding assistants such as Cursor, Copilot or Antigravity
• Knowledge of AI/ML concepts is a major plus

Required skills

• Java and C++ with strong understanding of multithreading, performance optimization, memory management and Java Generics
• Standard Java libraries and build systems such as Maven
• Cloud platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker, GCP and AWS, and PaaS
• Tools such as Java performance profilers, JVM analyzers, Git and IDEs/editors
• Python or other scripting languages; distributed systems, async systems, Unix and CI/CD are a plus
