Senior Tech Lead - Software Engineering

About the role

A Senior Tech Lead is needed to provide technical leadership, drive solution design and implementation, and deliver scalable, secure, high-quality enterprise software. The role works with customers, engineering teams, architects and project managers, keeping solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, BIAN standards, security practices and banking requirements. The position is a hybrid contract in Colombo.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to engineering teams, and lead solution design, implementation and technical decisions throughout the SDLC
• Define scalable architectures aligned with enterprise standards, with consistent patterns, modularity and DDD principles
• Ensure solutions follow BIAN standards, design banking services, APIs and microservices, and define microservice boundaries for core banking integration
• Drive design-first REST API development with OpenAPI/Swagger, including contracts, versioning, error handling and security
• Review architecture, code quality and API specifications; conduct code reviews and identify technical risks and architectural debt
• Evaluate technologies on security, compliance, maintainability, scalability, LTS, cost and long-term viability
• Design solutions meeting NFRs and implement monitoring, logging and observability with ELK Stack or equivalent
• Apply secure coding, JWT, RBAC, OWASP Top 10, and protection against CSRF/XSS; handle PII and comply with PCI DSS, GDPR and banking regulations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership
• Proven experience leading engineering teams in enterprise application development
• Strong experience in enterprise applications, APIs, microservices and system integration
• Banking/financial services technology experience is highly desirable
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, mentoring and problem-solving skills

Required skills

• Strong Java and OOP, including data types, heap/memory management, memory leak analysis and exception handling
• Design patterns (Singleton, Factory, Builder, Strategy) and SonarQube
• REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, API versioning and governance
• Microservices and enterprise integration patterns
• BIAN reference architecture (mandatory) and Domain-Driven Design
• Unit, API and performance testing, CI/CD, production deployment and incident troubleshooting
