Senior Manager - GL Reconciliation and Monitoring

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead General Ledger (GL) reconciliation and monitoring for a leading Sri Lankan bank. The role ensures GL accounts are accurately reconciled, complies with regulatory standards, and supports risk‑based controls.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and periodically update GL reconciliation policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
• Ensure all GL accounts are reconciled accurately according to approved policies, with daily focus on critical accounts and monthly reconciliation of other accounts.
• Identify and resolve system imbalances, inter‑branch imbalances, unusual balances, and long‑outstanding items.
• Obtain explanations from stakeholders, challenge unsupported ones, and coordinate corrective actions with business units.
• Escalate unresolved balances, root causes, and potential risks following the approved escalation framework.
• Monitor aging and maturity of outstanding reconciliation items and drive timely resolution of high‑risk variances.
• Prepare and present monthly MIS, exception reports, and key findings to management.
• Maintain proper documentation, supporting evidence, and audit trails.
• Identify recurring issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Conduct analytical reviews to detect unusual transactions and potential control issues.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of overall experience, at least 5 years in finance functions.
• Professional qualification such as CA, ACCA, or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of GL reconciliations, financial controls, governance, and risk management.
• Proven ability to manage complex reconciliation exceptions and drive process improvements.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong understanding of financial systems and data management.
• Good knowledge of banking products and operations.
• Experience with RPA, process automation, and business process re‑engineering is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of SQL, Power BI, and other data‑analytics tools.
