Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Jam is a fast‑growing mobile technology company that delivers carrier billing and value‑added services. We are expanding our engineering team in Colombo and need a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain new features and backend services.
• Write clean, well‑tested, and maintainable code.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and engineering teams to deliver high‑quality solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical planning.
• Debug and resolve issues across development, staging, and production environments.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure improvements.
• Support integration of new operators, aggregators, and partner systems.
• Document technical decisions and share knowledge internally.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of post‑graduate software engineering experience.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
• Effective communication skills and a team‑oriented mindset.

Required skills

• Experience with at least one modern backend framework (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Django, Laravel, Node.js).
• Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative version‑control workflows.
• Knowledge of background job processing frameworks (e.g., Sidekiq, Hangfire).
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus).
• Willingness to learn Ruby if not already familiar.
• Understanding of web development concepts: HTTP, APIs, authentication, etc.
