Assistant Transport Manager

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Assistant Transport Manager to support the efficient operation of our transport and fleet functions in Rathmalana. The role involves overseeing vehicle maintenance, coordinating drivers, and ensuring cost‑effective transport services across the network.

Key responsibilities

• Manage vehicle fleet maintenance, servicing and repairs, including coordination with garages and spare‑parts purchasing.
• Monitor vehicle conditions, insurance, and licence renewals.
• Allocate vehicles and drivers for daily operations and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate closely with sales and delivery teams to ensure smooth transport operations.
• Supervise drivers and helpers, handling attendance, punctuality, tours and leave management.
• Track fuel consumption and transport expenses, identifying irregularities.
• Manage GPS tracking systems and monitor vehicle movements.
• Maintain accurate transport documentation, repair records and monthly reports.
• Ensure preventive maintenance for lorries, company vehicles and bikes.
• Negotiate with suppliers and service providers to optimise operational costs.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in transport or fleet management.
• Hands‑on experience managing lorries and company vehicle fleets.
• Good knowledge of vehicle mechanics, maintenance, tyres, oils, filters and spare parts.
• Familiarity with GPS tracking systems and transport monitoring tools.
• Strong computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent organisational, reporting, communication and supervision skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and coordinate with multiple departments.
• Valid driving licence is an advantage.
