Senior Design Engineer – Mechanical (Hydraulic & Pneumatic)

About the role

Michelin is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead feasibility studies and develop robust mechanical solutions for its manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for the full design lifecycle, from concept through validation, ensuring compliance with cost, safety, and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies using validated procedures and evaluate solutions on cost, risk, environmental impact, and production economics.
• Lead the design process: problem definition, conceptual and parametric 3D design, BOQ preparation, detailed design, prototyping, testing, and process review.
• Develop mathematical and simulation models, perform finite element analysis (linear, non‑linear, dynamic, thermal, flow) to guarantee structural integrity.
• Produce technical documentation including detailed drawings, bills of materials, and specification sheets.
• Implement quality methods such as risk analysis, DFMEA, design reviews, and non‑conformance treatment.
• Design hydraulic and pneumatic circuits to achieve required machine functionality.
• Create 3D animations, presentations, and reports to communicate results.
• Lead equipment homologation, qualification, and industrial robustness activities.
• Mentor less experienced engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong expertise in CAD tools; SolidWorks experience is a plus.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic system design.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Sinhala.
• Innovative, creative, and able to work effectively in a team.
