Senior Design Engineer – Mechanical (Fixed‑Term, 2 Years)

About the role

Michelin is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead mechanical design projects on a two‑year fixed‑term basis. You will be responsible for translating concepts into detailed 3‑D models, conducting feasibility studies, and ensuring designs meet cost, safety, and performance criteria.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies using validated procedures and evaluate solutions on cost, risk, environmental impact, and production economics.
• Lead the design process from problem definition through conceptual, parametric 3‑D design, BOQ preparation, prototyping, testing, and process review.
• Develop mathematical and simulation models, perform finite element analysis, and support dynamic, flow, and thermal studies.
• Produce detailed drawings, bills of materials, and specification sheets; implement quality methods such as DFMEA, design reviews, and non‑conformance treatment.
• Design hydraulic and pneumatic circuits to ensure correct machinery functionality.
• Prepare 3‑D animations, presentations, and reports to communicate results.
• Mentor less‑experienced engineers and support equipment qualification and industrial robustness activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication skills in English and Sinhala.
• Innovative, creative mindset with strong teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD tools (mandatory).
• Experience with SolidWorks (advantage).
• Design of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Finite element analysis and simulation modeling.
