Data Engineer

About the role

EFL Global is hiring a full-time Data Engineer in Colombo, Sri Lanka, within its Information Technology department. The role covers building and maintaining scalable data pipelines, data integration solutions and data models that support analytics, reporting and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain robust, scalable and efficient data pipelines for analytics, reporting and operations
• Design, develop and maintain data integration solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure
• Develop and maintain data models, data warehouses and data lake architectures
• Work with Data Analysts, functional and engineering teams to understand data requirements
• Implement data quality checks, monitoring and alerting
• Optimise existing data infrastructure for performance, cost and scalability
• Enforce data engineering best practices, including coding standards, version control, testing and documentation
• Recommend new tools, frameworks and technologies, and ensure compliance with data governance, security and privacy standards
• Take part in incident response for critical data pipeline issues

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• At least 4 years of experience in Data Engineering, Software Engineering or a related technical field
• Proven track record of designing, developing and maintaining data solutions
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data quality, accuracy and performance
• Understanding of coding standards, secure development, Agile and DevSecOps; excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Required skills

• SQL and at least one data engineering language such as Python, Scala, Shell or XSLT
• Microsoft Azure data services and Microsoft Fabric
• ETL/ELT pipelines, relational and non-relational databases
• Data warehousing, dimensional modelling, data integration and workflow orchestration
• Added advantage: Apache Spark or PySpark, REST APIs, Azure Data Factory, Azure Logic Apps, AWS, GitHub or GitLab
