Deputy Executive Director, MSF South Asia

About the role

The Deputy Executive Director partners with the Executive Director in implementing the strategic vision, strategies and policies of MSF South Asia, including the Strategic Plan 2026-2031. The role strengthens management team capacity and operational discipline, gives the Executive Director clear insight into culture signals, safeguarding patterns, risks and performance, and supports representation internally and externally.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day running of the MSF South Asia section and drive the strategic plan, annual plans and management team agenda
• Provide strong day-to-day leadership and an open-door policy for staff, bridging departments
• Line manage the Directors of Finance, HR and Fundraising, including finance and HR controls, and the IT and Facilities departments
• Take part in Board Finance and HR Audit and Risk Committee meetings in the absence of the ED
• Provide oversight of legal, data privacy and compliance matters, escalate high-impact risks to the ED, and lead safeguarding and culture dossiers
• Manage the executive budget and resource management

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field
• Fluency in written and spoken English
• Minimum 10 years of MSF or related INGO experience, including field-level work in humanitarian or emergency contexts
• At least 5 years of managerial experience in a senior position
• Experience of strategy, budget and workforce planning, and direct experience with budgetary control, financial planning and data analysis
• Willingness to travel significantly and to work evenings, weekends or holidays

Required skills

• Strategy development and delivery, project management and strong communication and negotiation skills
• Familiarity with institutional governance, HR, safeguarding, finance and fundraising desirable

What we offer

• Three-year contract with possible extension for another three years
• Gross monthly salary of USD 3,763 to 5,365, plus a 13th-month bonus
