Driver – Light Vehicles (SC 2)

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a reliable Driver to operate light vehicles, trucks, vans and motorcycles in support of its humanitarian operations in Sri Lanka. The role involves transporting staff, supplies and equipment to field sites, ensuring safe and timely delivery of assistance to communities affected by disasters.

Key responsibilities

• Drive assigned vehicles safely and efficiently across diverse terrain.
• Transport personnel, food, cash‑transfer materials and other logistics items to project sites.
• Maintain vehicle logs, conduct routine inspections and report any maintenance needs.
• Adhere to all traffic regulations, WFP safety policies and security protocols.
• Assist with loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper handling.
• Support the Management Services Officer in coordinating field movements.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence for the relevant vehicle categories.
• Proven experience driving light vehicles in challenging environments.
• Good knowledge of local road conditions and traffic rules in Sri Lanka.
• Physical fitness to handle loading tasks and long driving hours.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours and adapt to emergency situations.

• Accurate record‑keeping of mileage and fuel consumption.
