Associate Data Analyst

About the role

We are seeking an Associate Data Analyst to join Cargills Ceylon PLC in Colombo. The role involves turning raw data into actionable insights that support our diverse business units across retail, FMCG, and more.

Key responsibilities

• Perform data extraction, cleansing, and pre‑processing from Lakehouse/Warehouse or other sources to create analysis‑ready datasets.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and statistical modelling to identify trends, drivers and opportunities across business verticals.
• Develop and support machine‑learning solutions using Python/PySpark, including problem framing, feature preparation, model development and evaluation.
• Build interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI, applying semantic modelling and DAX best practices.
• Write efficient SQL and Python/PySpark queries to interrogate large enterprise datasets.
• Support data‑governance initiatives, focusing on data‑quality management, profiling, rule definition, issue tracking and remediation.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate commercial context into analytical questions and actionable insights.
• Document analyses, assumptions and methodologies to ensure reproducibility.
• Undertake additional projects or tasks as requested by management.

Required profile

• Passion for Sri Lanka and desire to make a positive impact.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
• 1–2 years of hands‑on experience using data to solve business problems and support decision‑making.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Colombo.

Required skills

• Python and PySpark for analysis and model development.
• SQL for data querying.
• Power BI (or Tableau) for data visualisation.
• Experience with data extraction, cleansing and preprocessing.
• Knowledge of statistical modelling and machine‑learning concepts.
