Project Coordinator – Disaster Preparedness & Resilience

About the role

The Project Coordinator for the DHR Rise Up Project will lead planning, coordination and implementation of disaster preparedness and resilience activities across Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts. Reporting to the Project Manager, the role ensures strong collaboration with government authorities, community structures and partners while maintaining high accountability and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate and coordinate project activities in line with the approved work plan, working closely with partners, government agencies and local communities.
• Manage project resources and ensure compliance with World Vision policies, donor requirements and financial regulations.
• Build and maintain networks with government departments, NGOs, schools, CBOs, Village Child Development Committees, Disaster Management Committees, farmer and producer groups.
• Conduct regular meetings with local partners, monitor physical and financial progress of interventions under the GRACE project.
• Prepare and submit monthly, mid‑year and annual reports, ensuring timely delivery of all contractual deliverables.
• Mobilise technical, human and financial resources, supporting community partners to identify and allocate needed resources.
• Track project spending against the budget, ensuring prudent use of funds and low‑risk audit outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, International Development Studies, Community Development or related field, plus a diploma related to Disaster Risk Reduction.
• 3–4 years of experience in community development, program or project coordination within an international or INGO setting.
• Demonstrated experience in project implementation, community mobilisation and participatory approaches.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Tamil.
• Knowledge of capacity‑building for local stakeholders on DRR, community resilience and livelihood.
• Familiarity with EU, Global Fund or other multilateral donor requirements and regulations.
• Experience in disaster risk reduction or climate mitigation/adaptation sectors is an advantage.
