Library Teacher – Junior School

About the role

We are seeking an energetic, dedicated and self‑motivated Library Teacher to join the Junior School team at The British School in Colombo. The role involves creating a welcoming library environment that inspires children to develop a love of reading and become confident, independent learners.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the school library collection, including records of loans and returns.
• Deliver engaging library lessons and support students in developing research and information‑literacy skills.
• Guide students in selecting age‑appropriate books and resources.
• Organise reading programmes, book activities and library events.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom learning.
• Maintain an inclusive, stimulating space that encourages reading.

Required profile

• Recognised qualification in Library Science, Education or a related field.
• Previous experience working in a school library or educational setting.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Genuine interest in children’s literature and reading.
• Confidence working with students of varying ages and abilities.

Required skills

• Basic computer literacy and comfort using digital library resources.
