Lead Software Engineer – MQTT & IoT (Remote)

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer specialized in MQTT and IoT to design, develop and maintain high‑performance APIs and telemetry data pipelines for our global clients. The role is fully remote (based in Sri Lanka) with an initial short, fully sponsored trip to Kuala Lumpur for hardware hand‑over and knowledge transfer.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain MQTT‑based APIs and services for real‑time telemetry exchange.
• Build high‑throughput ingestion pipelines linking MQTT brokers with Azure Data Lake Storage and Microsoft Fabric.
• Integrate industrial telemetry platforms such as Ignition with cloud data platforms.
• Optimize messaging infrastructure for scalability, reliability and low latency.
• Develop RESTful microservices to expose telemetry data to downstream applications.
• Implement authentication, authorization and secure communication for MQTT services.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve production issues in messaging and data pipelines.
• Collaborate with OT, IoT, cloud and analytics teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in MQTT, API development or IoT application development.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Azure Data Lake Storage, Microsoft Fabric and telemetry systems such as Ignition.
• Proficiency in Python, C#, Java or Node.js for backend development.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and integrating message‑driven architectures.
• Fluent English communication (written and spoken).

• MQTT protocol and brokers (EMQX, HiveMQ, Mosquitto, Azure IoT Hub).
