About the role

Malala Retreat, a boutique getaway in Hambantota, is seeking a passionate Head Chef to lead its kitchen team. The successful candidate will create fresh, flavorful dishes that showcase both Sri Lankan and international flavours while upholding the highest standards of quality, hygiene and presentation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present high‑quality dishes for guests.
• Plan daily menus tailored to guest requirements and seasonal produce.
• Maintain consistency in taste, quality and plating.
• Ensure strict food‑handling, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards.
• Manage inventory, minimise waste and control food costs.
• Coordinate with the hospitality team to deliver a seamless dining experience.
• Develop creative dishes using locally sourced ingredients where possible.
• Keep the kitchen organised and efficient.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a chef in a hotel, boutique property, restaurant or villa.
• Strong knowledge of Sri Lankan and international cuisine.
• Solid understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene.
• Creative, organised and guest‑focused.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and flexibility.
