Advocacy & Communication Specialist – UNICEF

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an Advocacy & Communication Specialist to lead strategic advocacy and communication initiatives in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The role focuses on advancing children’s rights through evidence‑based campaigns, partnership building and compelling storytelling that influences policy and public opinion.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement advocacy strategies that align with UNICEF’s equity agenda and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
• Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, media outlets and private sector allies to amplify child‑rights messages.
• Manage digital and media campaigns, including social‑media content, webinars and press releases.
• Translate complex policy issues into clear, persuasive narratives for diverse audiences.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of advocacy activities and produce regular reports for senior management.

Required profile

• Strategic, results‑oriented professional with experience in advocacy, communications or public affairs.
• Strong understanding of child‑rights frameworks and equity‑focused development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage decision‑makers.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
