Technical Lead - Data Engineering

About the role

The company is expanding its data engineering capacity to support a growing product portfolio and rising analytical demand from internal teams and enterprise customers. This senior technical leadership position sits within the Sri-Lanka engineering group and works closely with data teams in the United States and other regions. The Technical Lead is a hands-on individual contributor responsible for technical direction, data modelling, pipeline architecture and platform reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical design for assigned workstreams end-to-end and produce written design proposals before implementation.
• Build and maintain production models and pipelines using dbt Core, Snowflake SQL and Python, staying hands-on most of the week.
• Investigate source data directly to define modelling requirements, grain and join logic when specifications are incomplete.
• Review pull requests daily, enforce modelling conventions, test coverage and performance standards.
• Own reliability of pipelines, diagnose failures and implement tests and alerts to catch data issues early.
• Mentor engineers through pairing and design feedback, fostering local ownership of the platform.
• Coordinate daily with engineers and stakeholders across regions, translating ambiguous business questions into scoped work.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in data or software engineering, including at least 2 years as a technical lead or architect.
• Strong expertise in SQL, analytical functions and performance tuning in a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake preferred).
• Deep production experience with dbt Core, multi-repo project structures, testing strategies and CI integration.
• Proficient Python for pipeline code, API integrations and orchestration (Airflow or equivalent).
• Ability to work from raw, undocumented source systems and define defensible data models.
• Experience with ingestion tools (Airbyte, Fivetran), CDC patterns and relational sources such as PostgreSQL and SQL Server.
• Comfort with Git-based workflows, CI/CD (Buildkite, GitHub Actions) and IaC on AWS.
• Excellent written and spoken English, self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity.
