Software Engineer - Java

About the role

Gallagher is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, test, and support enterprise Java applications. You will work on both desktop and backend systems, collaborating with business and technical teams to turn requirements into reliable solutions and deliver updates through CI/CD pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java applications, including desktop interfaces using Java Swing.
• Build scalable backend services with Vert.x and event‑driven architecture.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Gradle for automated build, test, and deployment.
• Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure high‑quality releases.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, testing, and production environments.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide production support, including occasional shift‑based coverage.

Required profile

• At least three years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency with Java 1.8 and Java Swing.
• Hands‑on experience with Vert.x, Jenkins, and Gradle.
• Familiarity with Python scripting for automation tasks.
• Solid understanding of object‑oriented principles and design patterns.
• Experience using Git or a comparable source‑control system.
• Ability to work effectively in Agile or Scrum environments.
