Senior Lead / Principal Software Engineer (Agentic Engineering / Research)

About the role

IFS Labs explores what is next for enterprise software, turning emerging technologies into working capabilities. It is looking for a Senior Lead / Principal Software Engineer with strong software engineering and architectural skills, a product mindset and a passion for solving real-world problems with software and AI. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building software, validating emerging technologies, creating production-grade prototypes and influencing future product and technology direction. Projects typically run 6-12 months and are delivered individually or in small teams.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate and validate emerging technologies, architectural patterns and industry trends relevant to IFS products and customers.
• Design, build and deliver prototypes, proof-of-concepts and production-ready capabilities across software, cloud, data and AI.
• Lead technical investigations and architectural studies, producing recommendations, reference implementations and next steps.
• Drive complex technical initiatives from concept through implementation and product handover, using agentic engineering and AI-assisted workflows.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Industry, Engineering, Sales, Presales, customers and partners to validate ideas and shape future products.
• Contribute to technical strategy, architecture and engineering practices, and represent IFS in customer engagements, demonstrations and events.
• Mentor engineers and champion engineering excellence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering and software architecture, with successfully delivered products and platforms.
• Proven track record of moving ideas from concept and prototype to production-ready solutions integrated with enterprise applications, business processes and data platforms.
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives, influence technical direction and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in one or more languages such as Python, Java, C#, Golang or TypeScript.
• Extensive experience with distributed, cloud-native, API-driven and event-driven systems.
• AI-assisted research and engineering with tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor and Claude Code.
• Desirable: applied AI, agentic systems, LLM-powered apps, Spec-Driven Development, cloud platforms (Azure) with CI/CD, containerization and observability, and enterprise domains such as ERP, service management, asset management, manufacturing, supply chain, industrial IoT, robotics, digital twins or cyber-physical systems.
