Medical Officer In Charge – Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department

About the role

The In‑charge Medical Officer will lead the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department, ensuring high‑quality, timely emergency care while overseeing daily clinical and administrative operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert clinical care and supervise rapid assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and trauma cases.
• Ensure triage protocols are followed and prioritize critically ill patients.
• Manage daily department operations, staffing schedules, and resource availability 24/7.
• Supervise junior doctors, nurses, paramedics and identify training needs.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, national regulations and international emergency care standards.
• Participate in morbidity‑mortality meetings, quality improvement initiatives and audits.
• Coordinate with ambulance services, police, disaster response teams and other hospital departments for integrated patient care.
• Identify revenue opportunities, develop proposals for service expansion and promote A&E services.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree with full registration on the SLMC.
• Minimum 8 years of clinical experience, including at least 2 years in an A&E or critical‑care setting.
• Proven experience in emergency patient management, triage, resuscitation and acute care.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification; ATLS certification is an advantage.
