Medical Officer – Hospital Ward Position

About the role

This position is for a qualified Medical Officer to provide comprehensive clinical care within a hospital ward setting. The role involves direct patient management, coordination with senior consultants, and ensuring high standards of documentation and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular ward rounds and assess patient progress.
• Clerk all new admissions within two hours of arrival.
• Maintain accurate, legible patient records and complete diagnosis cards.
• Educate patients and their guardians on post‑discharge care and follow‑up.
• Hand over patients to incoming medical officers with full diligence.
• Manage medical and surgical emergencies until higher‑level care is available.
• Communicate clinical findings clearly to consultants and update them on any changes.
• Follow consultants' instructions promptly and report incidents using the hospital’s incident record form.
• Participate in clinical audits and adhere to infection‑prevention protocols.
• Engage in staff training when permitted and perform any other duties delegated by senior management.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Full registration with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).
• Ability to perform ward rounds, admission clerking, and emergency management.
• Strong understanding of hospital equipment, monitors, and patient‑care devices.
• Commitment to accurate documentation and adherence to hospital policies.
