Technical Lead - Data Engineering

About the role

We’re looking for a Technical Lead who sits at the intersection of hands‑on data engineering, team leadership, and client relationship management. Strong stakeholder management matters as much as technical depth, and the role requires a genuine interest in mentoring people and building trust with clients.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and dimensional data models for client and internal platforms.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of the data‑engineering workstream, from architecture decisions to production reliability.
• Implement Medallion/lakehouse architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold) with restartable, observable, and auditable pipelines.
• Establish data‑quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to catch issues at source.
• Lead, mentor, and review the work of other data engineers, allocating tasks across the team’s pipeline.
• Act as primary technical point of contact for client stakeholders, managing expectations and reporting progress.
• Translate business and analytical questions into engineering priorities.
• Make operational and cost decisions on workloads, platforms, and tools to control infrastructure spend.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of professional experience, including at least 2 years in data engineering.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
• Direct experience managing client or stakeholder relationships, preferably in consulting.
• Strong hands‑on experience with SQL and ETL/ELT pipeline development.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Required skills

• Data modelling, dimensional modelling, lakehouse concepts (Delta Lake).
• Modern cloud data platforms – Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse/Data Factory, Databricks.
• Pipeline orchestration, version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Data lineage, observability and data‑quality monitoring.
• Fivetran or comparable managed ELT tools, change‑data‑capture.
