Ship-to-Shore (STS) Crane Operator

About the role

The STS Operator works on ship‑to‑shore cranes at Colombo East Container Terminal, loading and discharging containers safely and efficiently. The position involves shift work in a dynamic port environment, requiring constant vigilance and coordination with multiple teams.

Key responsibilities

• Operate ship‑to‑shore cranes according to operational instructions and vessel loading plans.
• Coordinate with signalers, yard teams and supervisors to ensure smooth container movements.
• Perform basic pre‑operational checks, report faults or incidents, and keep accurate handling records.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, port regulations and emergency protocols.

Required profile

• Ability to safely operate heavy port equipment, preferably ship‑to‑shore cranes.
• Strong hand‑eye coordination, spatial awareness and physical fitness for work at heights.
• Commitment to safety and proven reliability in high‑risk environments.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
