Senior Young Learners Teacher

About the role

The British Council Sri Lanka is seeking a Senior Teacher to lead its Young Learners programmes across multiple centres. You will work closely with academic, operations, marketing and sales teams to deliver high‑quality English language education for preschool‑aged children.

Key responsibilities

• Provide line‑management, observations and performance reviews for teaching staff, ensuring compliance with British Council standards.
• Lead the annual CPD programme, model best classroom practice, and conduct demos, development sessions and peer observations.
• Support recruitment, induction and mentoring of new teachers and those expanding into new teaching areas.
• Ensure teaching and learning frameworks, policies and safeguarding procedures are understood and applied.
• Collaborate with operations and customer service teams to address academic and learner needs.

Required profile

• Extensive experience teaching English to young learners, preferably in a senior or leadership capacity.
• Strong understanding of ELT best practices and ability to translate them into actionable classroom strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop teaching staff.
• Commitment to student wellbeing and safeguarding standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency in designing and delivering CPD programmes.
• Experience with classroom observation and performance feedback.
• Knowledge of British Council teaching standards and ELT methodologies.
