Senior Web Developer

About the role

Surge Global is seeking a Senior Web Developer to design, build, and optimise client websites across a range of modern platforms. You will work closely with design, content and project teams to deliver high‑quality, performant digital experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain client sites using WordPress, Shopify and headless stacks such as Astro, Next.js and Strapi.
• Develop custom Shopify themes and sections while minimising reliance on third‑party apps.
• Deliver end‑to‑end headless implementations, from content modelling to production deployment.
• Diagnose and resolve performance issues, including speed, Core Web Vitals and responsive design problems.
• Translate design files into high‑craft UI, incorporating animations and interactive details.
• Integrate marketing tools, APIs and other third‑party services.
• Utilise AI‑assisted development tools as part of the standard workflow.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, review code and mentor junior developers.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience building production‑grade websites.
• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills, excellent HTML/CSS, and working knowledge of PHP for WordPress customisation.
• Delivered projects in at least two of the following: custom WordPress themes, Shopify Liquid, Astro or Next.js.
• Proven performance optimisation results with measurable impact.
• Portfolio showcasing UI craftsmanship and attention to detail.
• Comfortable using Git and modern build tooling.
• Ability to work independently from a brief and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
