Senior Accountant

About the role

The Senior Accountant will be based on-site in Colombo, working full‑time for Exel BPO. This position oversees the complete accounting cycle, prepares financial statements, and supports UK‑based clients with accurate and timely financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Execute month‑end and year‑end closing activities and prepare financial statements and management reports.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, providing insights to senior management.
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Review, mentor, and train junior accounting staff while driving continuous process improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; professional qualifications (ACCA, CIMA, CA) are a plus.
• Prior experience in a senior accounting role, preferably within a BPO or outsourcing environment.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for interaction with local teams and UK clients.

Required skills

• Core accounting expertise: general ledger, financial reporting, reconciliations, month‑end/year‑end close.
• Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero or Sage.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
