Resident Coordinator (Sri Lanka)

About the role

The Resident Coordinator is the highest‑ranking United Nations development system representative in Sri Lanka. Reporting directly to the Secretary‑General and annually to the host Government, the role leads the UN Country Team to deliver the UN Cooperation Framework and advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of state, fostering engagement with government, civil society, academia, private sector and multilateral partners.
• Lead the UN Country Team in developing, monitoring and reporting on the UN Cooperation Framework, ensuring alignment with national priorities.
• Coordinate system‑wide UN support to the Government, promoting preventive and collaborative approaches to development challenges.
• Ensure accountability for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
• Report annually to the Secretary‑General and the host Government on progress, challenges and outcomes of UN interventions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in international development coordination and multi‑agency leadership.
• Deep understanding of the United Nations system, the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
• Proven diplomatic skills with the ability to engage senior government officials and diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and reporting capabilities to oversee UN Cooperation Framework implementation.
