Project Associate (Tier 1 & 2)

About the role

The Project Associate will support UNDP's Climate and Environment Team in Colombo, contributing to the delivery of climate‑change adaptation, disaster risk reduction and sustainable natural resource management programmes. The role assists the Government of Sri Lanka with technical and policy guidance to enhance resilience to climate‑related hazards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of climate‑focused projects funded by GEF, the Adaptation Fund, the Montreal Protocol and bilateral partners.
• Provide technical support for policy development, capacity building and knowledge sharing with government and stakeholder entities.
• Support the preparation of project proposals, work plans, budgets and progress reports.
• Contribute to the development of a pipeline of new funding opportunities and partnerships.
• Coordinate with internal UNDP units and external partners to ensure timely delivery of project outputs.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in environmental studies, climate science, development studies or a related field.
• Experience working in development programmes, preferably in climate change, disaster risk reduction or natural resource management.
• Strong analytical and writing skills, with ability to produce clear reports and policy briefs.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team and engage with government officials.

Required skills

• Project management fundamentals.
• Knowledge of climate‑change adaptation frameworks and disaster risk reduction strategies.
• Familiarity with UN development financing mechanisms (e.g., GEF, Adaptation Fund).
