Production Manager – Dairy Manufacturing

About the role

The Production Manager will lead daily and weekly operations at Cargills Dairies factory in Banduragoda/Mirigama, ensuring production schedules, quality standards and business targets are met within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and oversee production to achieve volume, quality and cost targets.
• Lead, motivate and develop the production team, fostering a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional departments to ensure smooth plant operations.
• Manage the production budget, monitor expenses and drive cost‑effective operations.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, ISO, hygiene and workplace safety standards, conducting audits and corrective actions.
• Handle non‑conforming products and implement preventive measures.
• Drive productivity, minimise waste and maximise machine utilisation.
• Analyse production data to identify issues, trends and improvement opportunities.
• Lead continuous‑improvement projects to enhance plant performance.
• Oversee team performance, training, rosters and employee matters in collaboration with HR.

Required profile

• Passionate about contributing positively to Sri Lanka.
• B.Sc. in Food Science, Food Technology or related field.
• Minimum 15 years experience in production/manufacturing within dairy, food & beverage or FMCG (dairy experience a plus).
• Strong knowledge of industry regulations, GMP, HACCP and quality assurance processes.
• Proven leadership ability to meet production KPIs and business targets.
• Excellent organisational, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Effective communication in English and Sinhala.
• Willingness to work extra hours/days when required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with IT tools and MS Office/365.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
• Understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
• Experience with HACCP food safety protocols.
• Familiarity with ISO standards and hygiene requirements.
