Music Copyright Specialist

About the role

The Music Copyright Specialist will join HireNova’s entertainment and media team in Colombo, working hybrid with some remote flexibility. The role focuses on reviewing music catalogs, recordings and compositions to verify and document copyright ownership and related rights, supporting licensing and royalty processes.

Key responsibilities

• Research and verify copyright registrations for music works, recordings and compositions.
• Prepare detailed rights summaries and maintain accurate metadata in rights databases.
• Support licensing, royalty and contract teams with clear documentation of ownership and usage rights.
• Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding music ownership, usage and licensing.
• Collaborate with rights holders and cross‑functional stakeholders to resolve copyright conflicts and discrepancies.
• Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes to ensure internal compliance.

Required profile

• Solid understanding of the music industry and its copyright framework.
• Background in music performance, production or music education to interpret recordings and compositions.
• Familiarity with copyright law concepts, licensing practices and royalty structures.
• Strong research, analytical and documentation abilities with high attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Music, Law, Business or related field preferred; relevant professional experience is a plus.
