Medical Specialist SME – Remote Contractor (Hourly)

About the role

We are seeking board‑certified or board‑eligible medical specialists to join SME Careers as remote, hourly contractors. In this role you will act as a Subject Matter Expert, reviewing AI‑generated clinical responses, creating gold‑standard content, and providing detailed feedback to improve the safety and accuracy of large language models.

Key responsibilities

• Develop AI training content by writing detailed prompts and gold‑standard answers across clinical topics within your specialty.
• Evaluate and rank AI‑generated responses, focusing on correctness, safety, clarity, and contextual relevance.
• Test AI outputs for inaccuracies, unsafe recommendations, and bias, and validate reliability across diverse patient populations.

Required profile

• MD or DO with completed specialty training (residency/fellowship) and board eligibility or certification.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑training clinical experience in a hospital, outpatient, academic, or community setting.
• Advanced clinical reasoning skills, including differential diagnosis, triage, red‑flag identification, and risk‑benefit assessment.
• Strong attention to detail for fact‑checking and identifying unsafe assumptions; C1‑level English proficiency.
• Self‑directed, reliable, and able to deliver consistent quality in a remote, hourly workflow across time zones.
• Prior experience with AI data training, guideline work, utilization review, clinical documentation review, or healthcare editorial QA is strongly preferred.
