Medical Laboratory Technologist & Phlebotomist

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Technologist & Phlebotomist will work full‑time on‑site at Kings Hospital Colombo, performing routine and specialised laboratory tests and collecting patient blood samples. The role ensures accurate, timely reporting of results while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialised laboratory analyses and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Collect blood specimens via venipuncture and capillary sampling, label, handle and store them according to protocol.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
• Execute quality control and quality assurance procedures to guarantee result reliability.
• Adhere to infection‑control, safety, and regulatory guidelines.
• Communicate test results clearly to medical staff and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Recognised diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (or equivalent) with professional certification where applicable.
• Strong foundation in medical technology and ability to perform and interpret a range of diagnostic tests.
• Proven phlebotomy skills, focusing on patient comfort and safety.
• Experience in a hospital or accredited clinical laboratory is advantageous.
• Attention to detail, strong documentation abilities and confidentiality.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced clinical environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
