Manufacturing Engineer – Food Production

About the role

Cargills Convenient Foods is seeking an Engineer to drive efficiency and quality in its food manufacturing operations. The role focuses on optimizing processes, maintaining equipment, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives at the Ja-ela factory.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement manufacturing processes that maximize efficiency and reduce waste.
• Monitor and maintain manufacturing equipment to ensure functionality and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve production issues and implement process improvements.
• Measure key performance indicators (KPIs) related to efficiency, quality and productivity.
• Conduct regular inspections and troubleshoot equipment failures to minimise downtime.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a clean work environment.
• Develop preventive maintenance schedules and engage in R&D activities to enhance line efficiency and lean practices.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management as required.

Required profile

• Passionate about contributing to Sri Lanka’s development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering or maintenance within a manufacturing, meat‑processing or food‑processing environment.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and repair methodologies.
• Good IT literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, CAD software and ERP/project‑management tools.
• Understanding of industrial machinery, preventive maintenance practices and electrical/mechanical fault diagnosis.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
