Legal & Commercial Officer

About the role

The Legal & Commercial Officer will manage, coordinate and organise all legal matters for Fortude, providing decision‑making support to the management team and liaising with both international and local legal experts.

Key responsibilities

• Review and draft contracts, agreements and internal policies, ensuring compliance with statutory and legal requirements in consultation with external legal experts.
• Establish robust vetting and sign‑off processes for all legal transactions.
• Review existing contracts to ensure obligations, especially regarding labour and employment law, are understood and met.
• Provide advice on labour and employment matters, including employee relations, workplace policies and regulatory compliance.
• Liaise with departmental stakeholders to communicate and assess legal risks.
• Coordinate and manage outstanding litigation, working with external lawyers as needed.
• Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise management on labour and employment regulations.
• Prepare regular reports for the management team on legal matters and updates on labour and employment issues.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar legal role, preferably with exposure to labour and employment law.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent attorney qualification.
• Strong time‑management, coordination and organisational abilities with keen attention to detail.

Required skills

• General proficiency in IT and computer applications.
