Legal and Compliance Officer

About the role

The Legal and Compliance Officer will provide comprehensive legal support for energy, infrastructure and construction projects, ensuring that all contractual and regulatory requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate project agreements such as PPAs, EPC, O&M, joint venture and supply‑chain contracts.
• Handle company secretarial duties, including board resolutions, statutory registers, meeting minutes and regulatory filings.
• Analyse commercial contracts to identify legal, financial and operational risks.
• Ensure project documentation complies with local laws, environmental regulations, energy‑sector guidelines and corporate‑governance standards.
• Provide legal support from initial bidding and expressions of interest through financial closure and execution.
• Formulate contract clauses that minimise disputes and establish effective dispute‑resolution mechanisms.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university and/or qualification as an Attorney‑at‑Law.
• Notary Public licence or Commissioner for Oaths certification is highly advantageous.
• Minimum five years of post‑qualification experience.
• Experience in a reputable law firm specialising in corporate/commercial law or as in‑house counsel in the energy, infrastructure or construction sectors.
• Experience handling company secretarial functions is preferred.
• Professional fluency in written and spoken English and Sinhala.
