Junior School Principal (Head of Junior School)

About the role

The British School in Colombo is seeking a dynamic leader to head its Junior School. This full‑time, on‑site position oversees academic and pastoral provision for over 800 junior students, ensuring delivery of the English National Curriculum within a supportive, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of the Junior School, including teaching, learning and student wellbeing.
• Mentor and develop staff, fostering a collaborative professional culture.
• Coordinate curriculum implementation and monitor assessment data to drive progress.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on school‑wide improvement plans and policy development.
• Oversee daily operations, health & safety, and safeguarding practices.
• Represent the Junior School within the wider school community and maintain effective communication with families and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong background in primary or junior education with proven educational leadership experience.
• Expertise in curriculum development aligned with the English National Curriculum.
• Excellent communication and research skills to inform practice and policy.
• Relevant teaching qualification and a university degree in Education or a related field.
• Experience in an international or multicultural school environment is highly beneficial.
• Commitment to student wellbeing, inclusion and safeguarding.
• Strong organisational, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
