Junior Legal Officer

About the role

Akbar Brothers Group is seeking a dynamic and goal‑oriented Junior Legal Officer to join its legal team. The role focuses on intellectual property, trademark matters and general corporate legal support within a fast‑paced export business.

Key responsibilities

• Handle intellectual property and trademark filings, renewals, oppositions and hearings in Sri Lanka and other jurisdictions.
• Attend hearings before the National Intellectual Property Office of Sri Lanka and manage related IP matters.
• Draft, review and prepare trademark applications, responses, contracts and other legal documents.
• Coordinate with external counsel locally and abroad on IP, litigation and dispute resolution.
• Negotiate, draft and review commercial contracts ensuring legal compliance.
• Support risk‑management initiatives, conveyancing, notarial work and company secretarial duties.

Required profile

• Attorney‑at‑Law (AAL) qualification is mandatory.
• 1–2 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in IP, trademark, commercial or corporate law.
• Sound knowledge of Sri Lankan laws and regulations; understanding of international trademark matters is an advantage.
• Excellent command of English with strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong drafting, analytical, negotiation and interpersonal abilities.
• High ethical standards, professionalism and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑moving corporate environment.
