Jolly Phonics Teacher – Part‑time (Wattala)

About the role

The Jolly Phonics Teacher will join the Wattala Branch of Start Smart Learning Academy to deliver systematic, engaging phonics lessons to early learners. This part‑time, on‑site position focuses on building reading, writing and spelling skills using the Jolly Phonics programme.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver daily phonics lessons aligned with the Jolly Phonics curriculum.
• Prepare and organise teaching resources, interactive activities and classroom materials.
• Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records and provide regular feedback to parents or guardians.
• Create a safe, inclusive and learner‑centred classroom environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure curriculum alignment and share best practices.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training sessions.
• Maintain consistent classroom presence, punctuality and adherence to academy standards.

Required profile

• Strong foundation in education and teaching, with experience in early childhood or primary‑level literacy instruction.
• Ability to design effective lesson plans tailored to phonics learning objectives.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging young learners and interacting with parents and staff.
• Relevant teaching qualification or certification in early childhood or primary education; Jolly Phonics training is an advantage.
• Demonstrated classroom management skills and a commitment to inclusive, learner‑centred environments.
• Proficiency in English, with the ability to explain phonics concepts clearly; knowledge of local languages is beneficial.
• Adaptability, patience and genuine interest in supporting early literacy development.
