Head of Communications – Sri Lanka

About the role

HSBC is looking for a senior communications professional to lead its Communications for Businesses and Markets (CBAM) function in Sri Lanka. You will shape the corporate narrative, support senior leaders, and protect the bank’s reputation across digital, social and traditional channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver an integrated communications strategy aligned with business priorities and global themes.
• Lead digital and social media communications, including executive profiling and thought‑leadership content for the Country CEO.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local media to enable proactive storytelling and effective reactive communications.
• Create high‑quality content such as speeches, press releases, social posts, films and graphics.
• Manage reputation, issues and crisis communications across all media, providing timely counsel and escalation.
• Measure communications effectiveness using digital and social insights and continuously improve reach and impact.
• Partner with the Country Leadership Team and regional/global communications teams, contributing to governance as a member of the Country Operating Committee.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in communications, public relations or corporate affairs, with deep expertise in digital and social media.
• Background in an international organisation operating in a regulated environment.
• Strong writing and editing abilities, capable of crafting compelling stories for internal and external audiences.
• Proven ability to produce digital content directly and to brief agencies for films, graphics and other creative assets.
• Experience using digital and social analytics to measure performance and optimise strategy.
• Established media networks and a track record in media relations, corporate and employee communications.
• Demonstrated experience managing reputation, issues and crisis situations, advising senior leaders and delivering under pressure.
