Dorm Master / Matron – Residential Boarding Role

About the role

The Dorm Master / Matron will join the residential boarding team at S. Thomas’ College, Gurutalawa, providing day‑to‑day supervision and pastoral care for boarding students. This full‑time, on‑site position ensures a safe, supportive, and inclusive living environment that promotes academic and personal development.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, guide and offer pastoral support to boarding students.
• Assist students with daily routines, encouraging positive behaviour and personal responsibility.
• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene and order within the dormitory.
• Organise and support the day‑to‑day functioning of the hostel.
• Promote positive study habits, social skills and responsible conduct.
• Plan and facilitate recreational, co‑curricular and evening activities.
• Collaborate with academic and administrative staff on student wellbeing matters.
• Report boarding and welfare issues to the Deputy Headmaster and Headmaster.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 35 years.
• Degree‑level qualification or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in education, boarding, residential care, youth development or a related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in spoken and written English.
• Basic knowledge of student safety, safeguarding, hygiene and wellbeing.
• Good organisational abilities and capacity to respond to unexpected situations.
• Willingness to reside on college premises.
