Design Engineering Manager

About the role

The Design Engineering Manager will lead Wallspan's design engineering function for building façades, cladding, shading, and interior solutions. Based onsite in Colombo, this senior role ensures concepts, detailed designs, and engineering validations meet safety, performance, and project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee concept development, detailed design, and technical documentation for façade and envelope systems.
• Manage engineering resources, review and approve drawings and calculations, and coordinate with suppliers and installation teams.
• Collaborate with architects, contractors, and internal multidisciplinary teams to translate client requirements into cost‑effective, sustainable solutions.
• Implement best practices, optimise workflows, and mentor engineering staff to maintain high quality and timely delivery.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in design engineering of building façades, cladding, and related systems.
• Proven experience in engineering management, leading teams and handling multiple projects.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Architectural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with façade/curtain wall, cladding or building envelope design in commercial or high‑rise projects.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD and relevant engineering design software.
• Familiarity with BIM tools.
• Solid knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, structural performance, materials and thermal behavior.
• Understanding of applicable building codes, safety standards and sustainability guidelines.
