Data Governance Officer – Assistant Manager

About the role

Our client, a leading and diversified Sri Lankan conglomerate, is seeking an experienced Data Governance Officer to join their IT team. The role will support data governance, data privacy, information security, and access management initiatives across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, consistency, and security across business systems.
• Monitor compliance with Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and support data classification, retention, and lifecycle management.
• Coordinate Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and privacy initiatives.
• Manage Microsoft Entra ID, Azure security groups, RBAC, and Conditional Access policies.
• Review and approve user access requests, conduct periodic access reviews, and ensure timely revocation for departed employees.
• Assist with data breach management, incident reporting, and corrective actions.
• Maintain data governance documentation, reports, and audit records, and conduct staff awareness training.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Security, Business Information Systems, Law, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in Data Governance, Information Security, Compliance, Risk Management, or Data Privacy.
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data privacy principles, PDPA, data lifecycle management, and access management controls.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, documentation, and reporting abilities.
• High level of confidentiality, attention to detail, and ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
