Legal & Compliance Officer – Energy Projects

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate project agreements such as PPAs, EPC, O&M, joint venture and supply chain contracts.
• Handle company secretarial duties including board resolutions, statutory registers, meeting minutes and regulatory filings.
• Analyse commercial contracts to identify legal, financial and operational risks and propose mitigation strategies.
• Ensure project documentation complies with local laws, environmental regulations, energy sector guidelines and corporate governance standards.
• Coordinate with government agencies, ministries and regulatory bodies to obtain project approvals, licences and ensure ongoing compliance.
• Provide legal support throughout the project lifecycle from bidding and expressions of interest to financial closure and execution.
• Draft contract clauses that minimise dispute risk and establish clear resolution mechanisms.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university and qualification as an Attorney‑at‑Law.
• Minimum five years post‑qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably in energy, infrastructure or construction, including company secretarial functions.
• Experience interacting with public sector or government authorities is preferred.
• Professional fluency in written and spoken English and Sinhala.
• Holding a Notary Public licence or Commissioner for Oaths certification is advantageous.
