Pharmacist / Assistant Pharmacist – Hospital Pharmacy

About the role

This is a full-time, on-site role based at Nawaloka Hospital Negombo for a Pharmacist / Assistant Pharmacist. The role involves dispensing medications accurately according to prescriptions, advising patients and clinical staff on proper medication use, dosage, and potential side effects, and ensuring compliance with relevant pharmacy regulations and hospital policies.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense medications accurately according to prescriptions.
• Advise patients and clinical staff on proper medication use, dosage, and potential side effects.
• Manage inventory, check expiry dates, maintain secure storage, and support ordering and replenishment of stock.
• Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support safe medication practices and contribute to clinical documentation.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and continuous improvement of pharmacy services.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, and safe dispensing practices with ability to interpret prescriptions accurately.
• Skills in medication counseling, patient education, and clear communication with medical and nursing staff.
• Ability to manage inventory, maintain documentation, and adhere to regulatory and hospital standards.
• Attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and commitment to patient safety and ethical practice.
• Diploma or degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution and valid professional registration or license as required by local regulations.
• Prior experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting is an advantage.
• Ability to work in shifts, including weekends or holidays, in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proficiency in relevant pharmacy software systems and basic computer applications.
